Over the years, I have had several discussions during the course of my company as an objective where I have finally explained how domain names, hosting, and name servers operate and intertwine. This seems like a good sign that the explanation is easily and quickly understood.
Let’s go through a common scenario where we are developing a website for a customer to make as much sense as possible. We believe that the website has already been designed and developed.
One important point to remember before we continue is that you can often get all that you need from a single vendor (domain, DNS, and hosting). We would presume, however, that all of this is done separately for our example, because it will help to demonstrate how all parts fit together.
We will assume, however, that you do everything individually as an example, which will help show how all the parts fit together.
Domain Names:
The first move is to have a domain name. You know it’s the website url, like goalinc.com. We need a registrar like Namecheap to purchase a domain name. Domain names are listed on the global chart, from a few dollars to 50 dollars or above.
All registrars offer the very same domain names so the only distinction is the service they provide. It is like booking flights from Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz.
You’re all going to sell the same Delta flight, but prices can differ and the additional selling services may change. At long last however, whenever you sell your ticket, you are still seated at the same tight seat on the exact same Delta flight.
If you think about additional services a registrar can offer, you know you don’t need their additional services, regardless of how urgent they can make them sound.
Since the reselling of domain names has a lower margin than before, it is now their main game to sell you on other things.Once we move on, we need to clarify something else about the domain names. Every machine has a unique number on the Internet. The IP address is renamed. For every computer it’s like a telephone number. But for our purposes, it is oversimplified. An IP address domain name is like an alias, a memorable way to identify a computer over the Internet.
So, when you type in objectiveinc.com, it can be simpler than to remember the IP address (50.57.247.173) to reach my company’s web site. Once, it’s a little easier, but that’s the right goal? To make digesting this thing easier?
NAMESERVERS (OR DNS):
Part two is the development of our newly purchased domain name servers or DNSs.
DNS is a widely used acronym, which may mean a domain name network or a domain name server, depending on the context.
Would you please use it in a phrase? Yes, usually people say “I need my new domain name to set the DNS.” Or, they may ask, “Which are the new domain nameservers?”
DNS is the least visible and therefore the harshest aspect of the whole site setup process for people to understand.
Do you remember how the domain (objectiveinc.com) name is like the IP address alias on my company website (50.57.247.173)? Well, somebody has this information to keep a track. Someone needs to say that targetinc.com “points” at 50.57.247.173. That’s where DNS starts.
Most often this information will be kept by the same company that sells the domain name, but also companies that offer DNS services such as DNS Made Easy.
They have domain name servers, machines that monitor all this and are responsible to tell all of them that our new domain name goes to the IP of the machine hosting our new website.
Here we have mentioned that our example site website files will not be located on the same computer as apple.com or targetinc.com, we would be better off discussing where our site will be hosted.
Let’s see what offshore web hosting is?
Offshore hosting will only host your website, information or application from your place of origin to a remote data center location.
There are numerous reasons for your offshore web hosting, among them some reasons for hosting content, DMCA content, hacking websites and adult content.
Most people use this because legally, it is hard to shutdown and it is much easier and impossible to communicate. Offshore hosting also serves the purpose of hosting or promoting in their own countries where things are illegal, restricted or prohibited objects.
In India and other Asian countries, for example, poker and casino are forbidden and there is no choice other than offshore hosting for an Asian customer to house such web pages / content. You will determine which offshore hosting package is actually required based on the website / web apps you would like to run and your specific requirements. The following kinds of networking services are offshore.
Offshore Shared Hosting:
The most economical and growing alternative for offshore hosting is shared hosting. It allows multiple users to take advantage of a physical server’s shared resources to publish and update their websites online.
Offshore VPS Hosting:
VPS hosting is a hybrid hosting and dedicated server kit. A single physical device with the promised RAM and CPU for VPS is split into several virtual servers.
Dedicated server hosting (offshore):
Dedicated hosting is suitable for companies that attract thousands of users to or operate critical mission applications It is a physical server, unlike the shared or VPS alternative, that offers dedicated sources. The customer has complete control of the server with dedicated hosting.
