Overview of the industry
It’s 2018 and the revenue generated from the gaming industry is expected to rise by 13.3% as compared to 2017. If forecast by Newzoo is anything to go by, 2018 will see 2.3 billion gamers spend approximately $138 billion on games in 2018. The proliferation of technology and mobile devices in recent years has revolutionized the industry, and now more than ever, video games have become an integral part of our life and culture. The gaming industry was not the same 30 or 40 years ago. The mobile development industry has undergone significant changes from the early games of Tetris and Atari to Angry Stars and Brawl Stars.
How the industry is evolving over the years.
The 1980s was a good time to play computer games, thanks to affordable consoles among them the Nintendo, BBC Micro, and Atari-8 family. Anyone who lived in the 80’s would remember Pac Man-a timeless game released by a Japanese company Namco. Three
years later, Tetris, another undying game was created by Shigeru Miyamoto. In 1985, The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in the U.S.
The 1990’s were times of true innovations when the gaming genres we love today were born. This decade was marked by innovations and tech catching up with ground-breaking advances in video gaming. The transition from raster to 3D graphics saw the development of video game-genres such as Massively Multiplayer online games, real-time strategy, and first-time shooter.
In the early days of Pong, gaming was more or so a family activity. The 1990’s was the golden age of LAN parties. For PC gamers, the 1990’s evokes memories of “Bring-Your-Own-Rig” LAN parties. Since the early 2000’s, the evolution of gaming was hastened once the internet became commonplace. With enhanced internet capabilities and computer processing technology, the video game industry exploded.
Today, the gaming landscape has changed. With the advent of current-generation consoles like Xbox 1 and PlayStation 4, the internet plays a greater role in gaming than ever. Today, internet speed not only determines the stability of your gaming session but also how quickly you can download and play the latest games in the market. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are three industries that signify a new chapter for the gaming industry. These technologies enable gamers to interact with characters in the game.
Challenges
Securing funding is a common problem for developers across all industries. However, game developers face a unique set of challenges. This is worse for first-time game developers because they cannot predict the kind of issues that will crop up during the development
process. In the absence of funding, access to talent is limited. Developers also find it difficult to retain their users. To effectively engage users, game developers need to understand why gamers leave. Some common reasons include bugs, complicated interface, lack of gamification, and better alternatives.
The future of best gaming keypads looks promising. The gaming industry is heading towards the uncharted territory of augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. Virtual reality, in particular, is going to open new horizons for the gaming industry. VR not only delivers an encompassing experience for the gamer but also delivers the feeling of being one with the character in the game.
